The GRT508BV is a 2-pole latching relay built for smart electricity meters and energy measurement modules. Its magnetic latch holds the contact state after a short coil pulse, so the meter circuit stays open or closed without continuous coil power. The relay is rated 80A resistive at up to 250VAC, uses AgSnO2 contacts and fast connection terminals, and is covered by TUV Rheinland UC2 certificate AK 50686063 0001 for electricity metering payment systems.

The GRT508BV is supplied in a 2-pole latching configuration with a 5–24 VDC coil, so the drive voltage can be matched to your meter supply. The parameter sheet lists an 80A resistive rated load and 80A maximum switching current; product photos of this series are labelled 2×60A and the series datasheet quotes 60A contact switching capability. Confirm the contact rating your meter design must meet with our engineers before release, and we will state it on your drawing and inspection sheet.
Contacts are AgSnO2 for resistive load switching, with copper current-carrying parts and a plastic housing measuring 52.5 × 35 × 17.7 mm. The 2-pole magnetic latch structure sets and resets on a coil pulse, then holds position mechanically. Coil and contact circuits are separated by 4kV dielectric strength, and the T1 in / T4 out terminal layout keeps the load path short inside the meter.
Main use is on-off control of smart electricity meter circuits and energy measurement modules, including prepaid metering payment systems named in the UC2 certificate scope. Meter project data specifies operation at -40°C to +85°C, 5%–85%RH non-condensing, altitude ≤2000 m, in enclosures free of corrosive gas and explosive dust, switching resistive loads with high shock and vibration resistance, long mechanical life and low coil power consumption. Smart home load control is a further use listed for this series.
Custom assemblies are available with flexible wire and/or copper straps, and/or an integrated shunt, so the relay can be delivered as a sub-assembly that drops into your meter build. The 5,000,000-unit metering program below was delivered as a customised ODM build.
A customised ODM smart meter program has used this relay family since ten years of continuous supply, with 5,000,000 units delivered to meter makers in Korea, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, the United Kingdom, Greece, India, South Africa and Brazil. Reported results are stable operation, ultra-low coil power consumption, consistent contact performance and long service life. Production is based at Zhejiang Great Electrical Co., Ltd. (founded 2003, 50,000 m² plant), whose main products are latching relays and current transformers.
How does the latching design help a smart meter?
The relay is pulse-driven: a short coil pulse sets or resets the contacts and the latch holds that state with no continuous coil current, which suits meters that leave a load circuit open or closed for long periods.
What is the contact rating of the GRT508BV?
The parameter sheet lists 80A resistive rated load and 80A maximum switching current at up to 250VAC. Photos of this series are labelled 2×60A and the datasheet quotes 60A contact switching capability, so confirm the exact rating for your design with our engineers.
Which certification covers metering use?
TUV Rheinland UC2 certificate AK 50686063 0001, issued 22 July 2025 against IEC 62052-31:2015 and EN 62052-31:2016 for the EU market, with the GRT508BV named as relay for electricity metering payment systems. The relay also complies with IEC 62055-31 UC2 and RoHS.
What short-circuit level can it withstand?
2500A/10ms and 4500A/10ms without explosion, per the parameter data.
Which coil voltages are available?
5–24 VDC. Mechanical endurance is 100,000 operations across an ambient range of -40°C to +85°C.
Can you supply a custom sub-assembly?
Yes. Flexible wire and/or copper straps, and/or an integrated shunt can be assembled to the relay, as delivered on the customised ODM metering program above.
How is the relay mounted?
The relay uses fast connection terminals and measures 52.5 × 35 × 17.7 mm. Meter project data lists PCB soldering or screw mounting as the assembly conditions, with resistive loads and no corrosive gas or explosive dust present.
Send us your coil voltage, required contact rating, termination preference (fast connection, flexible wire, copper strap, integrated shunt) and annual volume, and we will reply with a matching configuration.
